Essay what it means to walk the path of honor final 2021-2022
Today, the concept of “honor” is considered by many people to be outdated. However, a decent person always sticks to the direction that this moral concept indicates. The road of honor is a straight and fair path to a goal for which we are not ashamed. It is honestly earned money, it is earned rewards, it is justified and fairly respected in society. You can call it whatever you want, but the essence will not change. To explain more precisely what it means to “walk the road of honor,” here are some literary examples.
Consider Tolstoy’s epic novel War and Peace. Andrei Bolkonsky went his way honestly and according to the laws of conscience. He has no deeds to be ashamed of. From the very first pages, the hero inspires respect. He went to war to serve, not to be a servant. There, he joins the army in action and gets bored working at headquarters. Therefore, at every opportunity Bolkonsky strives to help with deeds rather than words. In the Battle of Schoengraben he helps out and covers the hero Tushin, and at Austerlitz he takes the flagpole and leads the soldiers in an attack to prevent them from fleeing in shame. He was probably the only staff officer to receive such a serious wound. While most men sat on the sidelines and made careers through backroom intrigue, Andrew put all his energies into victory. After his disappointment with the war and Napoleon, he returns home and implements advanced reforms on his estate, removing unnecessary burdens from the peasants and giving them more freedom. The prince also tries to legislate and contribute to the political development of the country. And in the Patriotic War, patriotic Andrew takes over his regiment and becomes a combat officer. In the Battle of Borodino the hero is mortally wounded. His life journey is worthy of praise and imitation, because it is aimed not at achieving personal mercenary goals, but at the protection of the Fatherland, at the improvement of the country. Andrew walked the road of honor, because his achievements can be proud, as well as the means of obtaining these successes.
Another character who lived honestly and virtuously is depicted in Griboyedov’s play Woe from Wit. Alexander Chatsky studied abroad, but returned home to devote all his talents to his fatherland. Abroad, Alexander became more patriotic than his entire Moscow entourage. In the Famusov society no one thought about the fate of Russia, everyone was only interested in personal gain at any cost. The nobility parasitized on the work of the serfs and served only for medals and honors. And even then they did not serve, but “served. Chatsky opposes this sycophancy. He abhors flattery, hypocrisy, deceit, which are justified by posts and appointments. For Famusov, the standard is Maksim Petrovich, who played the role of jester to the crowned person only for the sake of officials and riches. Alexander was the only man who rejected this means to an end and left the Moscow nobility mired in vice. Chatsky did not betray his principles and continued to bend his line. This loyalty to himself is the main sign of a man walking the path of honor rather than the crooked path of opportunism.
Thus, people “walk in the way of honor” when they hold to their views, seek a vocation in a cause useful to society, and do not deceive themselves or put profit before morality. Such a path will never cause shame or reproach, for the purity of the wayfarer’s intentions is obvious to all. Each of us must choose this direction in life.
Essay Example #2.
In the course of life, a person faces many difficulties that he has to overcome. Everyone decides for himself how to act and what path to follow. What does it mean to walk the path of honor? Honor is the intrinsic dignity of every human being. To be an honest man means to act according to one’s conscience and to adhere to moral principles. To follow the road of honor is very difficult, because moral acts must be performed constantly, and the right path can be associated with the threat of losing something important, even your own life.
The topic of honor has worried many writers of different generations. Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin also refers to it in his work “The Captain’s Daughter. The main character – Peter Grinev is shown as a kind man who has high moral qualities. The complete opposite to him is the hypocritical and deceitful officer Shvabrin.
Before leaving for the service, his father gave Peter the precept: “take care of your honor when you are young. Throughout the entire work, Grinev followed this rule. On the way to the Belogorsk fortress, Pyotr Grinev quarrels with his servant Savelyich, and then makes peace with him himself. Not every lord can ask forgiveness from his servant. Also on his way to his new duty station, the hero, in gratitude for his help, gives the stranger his hare’s coat. There is a conflict between Grinev and Shvabrin in the Belogorsk fortress. The officer Shvabrin’s slander of Masha, the daughter of the commandant of the fortress, arouses Peter’s indignation. He decides to defend the girl’s honor and agrees to a duel. Later, when the fortress was seized by Pugachev, everyone faced the death penalty. Swearing to the rebel could save his life. Shvabrin sided with Pugachev without much hesitation, while Grinev preferred execution. After all, the honor and duty of an officer who swore an oath to the Empress, are for him the laws of life.
In the story, the author focuses on the fact that few people can follow the road of honor, because this road is extremely difficult, and in order to live honestly you need to perform moral acts and do it always.
Everyone has his own life and everyone decides for himself how to live it and what paths to follow. To be a man worthy and honest or to be weak and completely forget about the main values of life.
Essay Example #3
The road of honor is the path we take in life by keeping honor from beginning to end. If we stay the course, we can handle many difficulties, but there are new obstacles, sometimes very difficult ones. To walk an honest path means to overcome them and not to turn down crooked paths to get around them.
To explain my point, I will give examples from literature. In Leo Tolstoy’s novel War and Peace, Andrei Bolkonsky goes to war and soon receives a harsh blow from fate – defeat at Austerlitz. Wounds, hardship, and bitterness over his losses do not change the prince’s decision to serve his fatherland valiantly and honestly on the front lines. He is sent home, but from there he hurries back to his post. While some of the nobles welcome Napoleon, Bolkonsky sacrifices his life to drive him out, although he could also rely on the mercy of the victor and learn French on his estate. But his choice is to take the road of honor.
Another example can be found in Gogol’s story “Taras Bulba. The main characters sacrifice their lives to save their faith and defend their homeland. Ostap and Taras take a martyr’s death, defending the honor of their native village and the honor of their family. Andrew, Bulba’s youngest son, betrayed it, and his father and older brother took revenge on him, because they could not forgive him for running away from the road of honor – a thorny, but decent and the only right way for a defender of the fatherland. During his execution proud Ostap did not utter a single moan, praising his strong people to the last, while Andrew shamefully fell at the hands of his own father.
The phrase “To walk the path of honor” means that a man in his life’s journey protects his honor and his dignity, no matter what it takes. He will never be dishonest for profit or betray for glory. He walks uprightly and proudly because he is aware of his moral strength.
Essay Example #4
In following the path of honor, we must overcome our fear of other people and difficult circumstances, sometimes sacrificing much in order to defend our honor.
Let’s turn to M.A. Sholokhov’s story “The Fate of Man. The main character, Andrei Sokolov, is taken prisoner. They were going to shoot him for something he had said carelessly. He could beg for mercy, humiliate himself in front of his enemies. Perhaps a weak-minded man would have done just that. But the hero is ready to defend the honor of a soldier in the face of death. To Commandant Muller’s offer to drink to the victory of German arms, he refuses and agrees to drink only to his own death as deliverance from torment. Sokolov behaves confidently and calmly, refusing a snack despite the fact that he was hungry. He explains his behavior this way: “I wanted to show them, the damned, that even though I am starving, I am not going to choke on their handout, that I have my own Russian dignity and pride and that they have not turned me into a beast, however hard they tried. Sokolov’s deed even aroused the respect of the enemy. The German commandant recognized the moral victory of the Soviet soldier and saved his life. The author wants to convey the idea to the reader that even in the face of death one must maintain honor and dignity.
It is not only the soldier in time of war who must walk the path of honor. Each of us must be prepared to stand up for our dignity in difficult situations. In almost every classroom there is a tyrant, a student who holds everyone else in fear. Physically strong and cruel, he finds pleasure in bullying the weak. What is one who constantly faces humiliation to do? Tolerate the dishonor or stand up for one’s dignity? The answer to these questions gives A. Likhanov in the story “Clean pebbles. The writer tells the story of Mikhaske, an elementary school student. He repeatedly became a victim of Savvatey and his cronies. The bully was on duty at the elementary school every morning and robbed the kids, taking everything he liked. Moreover, he did not miss a chance to humiliate his victim: “Sometimes he snatched a book or a notebook from his bag instead of a bun and threw it into a snowdrift or took it for himself, then walked a few steps away and threw it under his feet and wiped his boots on it. Savvatey specifically “was on duty at this particular school, because in the elementary school students study until the fourth grade, and the kids are all small. More than once Savvatey took from him the album with stamps which belonged to Mikhas’ka’s father and consequently was especially dear to him, other times the hooligan set fire to his new jacket. True to his principle of humiliating the victim, Savvatey ran his “dirty, sweaty paw” over his face. The author shows that Mikhaska could not stand the mockery and dared to fight back against the strong and ruthless opponent, before whom the whole school, even the adults, trembled. The hero grabbed a stone and was ready to hit Savvatey, but he suddenly retreated. He retreated because he sensed Mikhaska’s inner strength, his readiness to stand up for his human dignity to the end. The writer focuses our attention on the fact that it was the determination to defend his honor that helped Mikhaska to win a moral victory.
To walk the road of honor means to stand up for others. Thus, Pyotr Grinev in Pushkin’s novel “The Captain’s Daughter” fought a duel with Shvabrin, defending the honor of Masha Mironova. Shvabrin, being rejected, in a conversation with Grinev allowed himself to insult the girl with vile innuendos. Grinev could not stand it. Like a decent man, he went out to a duel and was ready to die, but to defend the honor of the girl.
Summing up, we would like to express the hope that everyone has enough courage to choose the path of honor.
How important is honor to a man? – essay-exercise
Speaking about the topic of honor and its importance for a person, it should be said that, one way or another, honor is one of the most important concepts in the life of a self-respecting person. A person with dignified honor can say with confidence that there are no deeds behind his back for which he can be ashamed. Such people take great care of their honor and reputation in order not to shake it. However one can hardly meet people with crystal clear honor today, and this is absolutely normal, because in conditions of modern realities it is very difficult to remember one’s honor and to keep it crystal clear.
Honor is the most important concept for any person, because it is honor that characterizes a person, speaks about his actions, and about his attitude to other people. A person with honor will never allow himself too much in relation to other people, such a person is always very polite and courteous, and he always tries not to create conflicts. Such people usually take great care of their reputation because honor and reputation are mutually understood. Honor directly depends on reputation. If a person has a bad reputation, then such a person is unlikely to be referred to a person of honor, even if he or she is one.
Honor is a very important aspect of a person’s life that greatly affects it, making it easier or harder. As stated earlier, honor is what characterizes a person, and for obvious reasons if you have good honor and people talk about you as a person of honor, there should be no doubt that people will treat you much better the first time they meet you. However, if you have been glorified by a vile dishonorable person, then you can’t dream of any kind of warm meeting. With such people all talk pretty coldly, as if not trusting them, because at any time such a person can betray you, and stab you in the back, and, unfortunately, very often it turns out to be true. And apparently not for nothing people of this kind are treated with distrust and apprehension. They can be very duplicitous and deceitful, and their honor and reputation testify to this, which, in turn, as was said above, is very much connected to the honor itself, and, as it were, establishes it. Therefore, people who are dishonorable are often disliked in society, and they try to avoid them.
Thus, we can see that honor is very important for a person, as it plays quite an important role in his life.
Recently, society has begun to forget about many human qualities, such as conscience, humanity, kindness, sincerity, and honor. They have lost their former value, and for some they have ceased to exist at all. Many people consider honor to be quite an outdated concept, emphasizing that the times when it should have existed are long gone.
What does honor mean to each person? And do people cherish it at all?
It seems that people who used to retain their honor remained only on the pages of beautiful children’s fairy tales. Take, for example, the famous valiant heroes who fought for the idea. These brave heroes were ready to give their lives in battle so as not to lose their honor and not to fall in disgrace in front of the people.
Man must resemble such a principle, keeping his words and promises. Responsibility must be taken for every phrase spoken and deed performed. Even if a person did everything intuitively, without relying on common sense, he has no chance to go back.
It is very easy to lose one’s honor. After giving in to evil temptation once, a person will betray himself and his moral principles. But it will not be easy to regain one’s reputation and justify oneself in the first place.
At the moment honor has lost its value in society. People, without much difficulty, can pass on, set themselves up, cheat, commit an atrocity, without feeling any discomfort afterwards. A person who has overstepped the bounds of what is permissible, and who does not regret what he has done, loses his honor, with no opportunity to regain it.
It is worthwhile to be pious, to follow one’s spiritual mores and guidelines. By suppressing the inner urge to betray oneself and one’s idea, one steps onto a new stage of harmony with oneself. In today’s world, it is very important to preserve one’s dignity, nobility. It helps not only to seem higher in the eyes of other people, but also not to betray oneself. By preserving honor, a person will become more courageous and stronger. After all, it is not for nothing that servicemen, rulers, lifeguards, and medics pledge to preserve honor. This imposes on them a kind of responsibility, a kind of burden, which they must carry to the very end.
