Dua for conception and pregnancy

Fragments of the ayats of the Qur’an, which give an example of du’a, an appeal to God, for asking Him for pious children (for conception and safe delivery). You can read them in succession, or you can choose the ones that are especially close to your heart and mind.


رَبِّ هَبْ لِي مِن لَّدُنْكَ ذُرِّيَّةً طَيِّبًَ إِنَّكَ سَمِيعُ الدُّعَاء

Transcription of the dua: Rabbiyi, hab liy mil ladunqya zurriyaten toibe, inakya sami’ud-du’a.

Translation of the dua: “O my Lord, grant me good, pious offspring. Verily, You are the Hearer of supplication-du’a” (cf. Holy Qur’an, 3:38).


رَبِّ لَا تَذَرْنِي فَرْدًا وَأَنتَ خَيْرُ الْوَارِثِينَ

Transcription of dua: Rabbi la tazarni fardaan wa anta hayrul uarisiin.

Translation of the dua: “. “O Lord, do not leave me alone [without descendants and the continuation of the lineage], You are better than anyone to dispose of what remains on this earth [I am not worried about who will get the material things after my death, but I am worried about the spiritual component: to pass it on and be the cause of continuation, development, multiplication]” (see Holy Quran, 21:89).


رَبَّنَا وَاجْعَلْنَا مُسْلِمَيْنِ لَكَ

وَمِن ذُرِّيَّتِنَا أُمَّةً مُّسْلِمَةً لَّكَ

وَأَرِنَا مَنَاسِكَنَا وَتُبْ عَلَيْنَآ

إِنَّكَ أَنتَ التَّوَّابُ الرَّحِيمُ

Transcription of dua: Rabbana waaj’alna muslimayni laka wa min-zurriyatina ummatam-muslimatal-lak; wa arina manasikana wa tub ‘alayna; innaka antat-tawuabbur-rahim.

Translation of dua: “O Lord, wish that we may be submissive to You, and may there be among our descendants a nation (people) submissive to You; teach us the actions (rites) of hajj (pilgrimage), forgive us, for You can forgive everything and are infinitely Merciful” (Holy Qur’an, 2:128).


رَبِّ اجْعَلْنِي مُقِيمَ الصَّلاَةِ وَمِن ذُرِّيَّتِي رَبَّنَا وَتَقَبَّلْ دُعَاء

Transcription of dua: Rabbij-‘alni muki-mas-salati wa min zur-riyati, rabbanah wa taqabbal du’a.

Translation of the du’a: “O Lord, make me and my descendants stand for [the obligatory] prayer [to remember it and not to forget it]. O Lord, accept my supplication” (Holy Qur’an, 14:40).


رَبَّنَا هَبْ لَنَا مِنْ أَزْوَاجِنَا وَذُرِّيَّاتِنَا قُرَّةَ أَعْيُنٍ

وَاجْعَلْنَا لِلْمُتَّقِينَ إِمَامًا

Transcription of dua: Rabbana hab lana min azwajina wa zurriyatina kurrata a`yunin uaj`alna lilmuttakiyna imamaa.

Translation of the du’a: “O Lord, may our wives (husbands) as well as our children and descendants be the joy of our eyes [always, and even after death, may they please us with their fidelity and correctness, diligence and piety]. And make us the preppers (exemplary positive example) for the people of piety” (Holy Qur’an, 25:74).


رَبِّ أَوْزِعْنِي أَنْ أَشْكُرَ نِعْمَتَكَ الَّتِي أَنْعَمْتَعَلَيَّ وَعَلََى وَالِدَيَّ

وَأَنْ أَعْمَلَ صَالِحًا تَرْضَاهُ وَأَصْلِحْ لِي فِي ذُرِّيَّتِي

إِنِّي تُبْتُ إِلَيْكَ وَإِنِّي مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ

Transcription of dua: Rabbi ausi’-ni an ashkura ni’-matakallati an-‘amta ‘alayya wa ‘ala ualidayya wa an a’-malah salihan-tardahu wa aslih li fi zurriyyati. inni tubtu ilayka wa inni minal-muslimiin.

Translation of the du’a: “O Lord, inspire me to be [more] grateful to You for the gifts You gave me and my parents, [inspire] to do right deeds [so that I do not lose the path of righteousness] that You will be pleased with. And grant me righteousness (godliness, piety) in my posterity. I repent before Thee. And verily, I am of the Muslims (obedient to You, O Lord)” (Holy Qur’an, 46:15).


رَبِّ هَبْ لِي مِنَ الصَّالِحِينَ

Transcription of the dua: Rabbi hab li minas salihin.

Translation of dua: ” Lord, grant me a pious (good, good) [son; children]” (Holy Qur’an, 37:100).

Dua to get pregnant.

The role of motherhood, pregnancy for any woman, especially a Muslim woman, is a great obligation and a great benefit. Infertility and the inability to become pregnant can lead any woman to despair. The Qur’an provides a cure for this by praying to God for a cure for infertility.

Dua Zakariya.

The Shariah often cites some prayers of Zakariyyah as a cure for infertility that will help one become pregnant:

  • Dua asking the Lord not to leave you childless ” Rabbi la tazarni fardan wa anta hair ul waarisiin” (O my Lord, do not leave me childless, for you are the best of the inheritors…) is not only suitable in this situation, but also in any other.
  • Another prayer asking for righteous offspring is “Rabbi hab li minlyadunka zurriyatan tayibatan innaka sami uduaa” (Lord, send me righteous offspring, verily, you are the Hearing dua) and is also often used in such a situation as a dua to get pregnant. If a Muslim reads in Arabic, he is fortunate to be able to read the original ayahs. If the Muslim does not know Arabic, however, he can read the ayats in translation.

In order to understand the true meaning of these prayers, one should recall a story related to the name of Zakariya, which is mentioned in one of the surahs of the Quran: in it he mentions Maryam, whom the Almighty entrusted to his care. In it he mentions Maryam, whom the Almighty had entrusted to his care. He asked her where she got her food, and she replied that it was from Allah, who gives food to whomever He wills, without any account. And after that, Zakariya prayed to the Creator, asking the Almighty to bestow “…beautiful offspring from Yourself, for You heed the prayer”. While he was praying in the chapel, the angels called to him and told him that the Almighty was pleased Zacharias with news about Yahya, who was destined to confirm the Word from the Lord and become “a lord, an abstemious man and a prophet among the righteous.” Zakariya was surprised by this news, for he thought that his wife was barren and that he himself was old enough to have children. Saying that “Allah does what He wills,” he asked the Almighty to give him a sign, and the Almighty let him know that Zakariyyah would have to talk to people only by means of signs for three days, unceasingly remembering during that time and praising the Almighty.

Another surah of the Qur’an says that after everything that happened to Zakariya, he made it clear to his fellow tribesmen that they should praise the Lord before sunset and in the morning.

Conditions for taking dua

For those who want to become pregnant but are infertile, it will be very useful not just to know the story of Zakariya and his wife, but also to reflect on this story.

  1. One should not despair and stop praising the Creator and asking him for dua to get pregnant, even if it seems that life is drawing to a close and yet God has not given offspring. For some, the Creator considers it a greater mercy to teach patience than to grant a child.
  2. In order for your dua to be accepted by God, you should address it directly to Allah in one of the places of worship. It is necessary to perform the namaz in the way that the Shariah and the ayats of the Qur’an teach it. A Muslim must follow the Sunnah in his prayer, and if he violates it, his dua will not be accepted.
  3. An important condition for accepting dua is to be absolutely certain of His answer to prayer, because only the requests of the careless and inattentive will not be answered by the Lord.
  4. An important condition for the prayer to be accepted is the believer’s perseverance and determination.
  5. Sometimes a request to become pregnant or to have offspring may also be rejected by the Creator. What must the praying person not do to prevent this from happening? Among the reasons given on this site are only a few – it is haram that the praying person has allowed to happen. This may relate to food, drink, and clothing in which one addresses God. According to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ , Allah mentioned a man who raised his hands to heaven and pleaded with Allah, but his clothes were covered with dust and his food and drink were forbidden. “Any body that is nurtured by the forbidden most deserves the Fire!” – These were the words of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ . The supplications of a man who has forbidden clothing and is nourished by forbidden things will not be accepted or heard.
  6. In turning to God man should not be in a hurry – patience is one of the most important conditions for a dua to be accepted by the Creator. As soon as a person says that he has appealed to Allah in dua’ for some time, but my prayers have not been answered and Allah has not fulfilled my request, then his request may be rejected by Allah, because he has thereby expressed impatience.
  7. A person who turns to the Lord with a prayer for offspring must first change himself, his inner world, and work on the purification of his sins. The Lord heeds the dua and the prayers of the righteous, but if a man becomes ungrateful after the fulfillment of his requests, and allows transgressions, then Allah will change his position. Also, the Creator does not reject the prayers of those who do not stop doing good deeds pleasing to God. Those Muslims who neglect doing good deeds prescribed by the sharia, how can they count on the goodness of the Almighty?

The Reasons for Healthy Offspring

Getting pregnant is only one of the goals of a woman and a man in a family marriage, it is just as important to give birth to a healthy child. A Muslim man and Muslim woman who want to have righteous and healthy offspring should not forget to take the reasons for having a healthy child! It is necessary to follow all the rules that modern medicine recommends for a proper childbirth, to prepare for the conception of a child by giving up all harmful habits, to lead a correct, healthy lifestyle, paying attention to your physical, psychological and mental state, to get away from family conflicts and quarrels.

Pregnant woman is recommended to listen and read the Quran more often. Before intimacy, husband and wife are advised to recite dua of the Prophet ﷺ, so that Allah will protect the future child at conception from the harm of the cursed shaytan:

” Bismillah! Allahumma jannibnash shaitana wa jannibish shaitana ma razaktana” (In the Name of Allah. O Allah! Shield the shaitan from us and shield the shaitan from the one whom You will bestow upon us!) It is transmitted from Ibn Abbas: “When one of you desires intimacy with his wife and says, ‘BismiLlyahi, Allahhumma jannibna-sh-shaitana, importantannibi-shaitana ma razaktana,’ then if they are prescribed a child, he will never be harmed by a shaitan” (al-Bukhari, 66/1, Muslim 5/10).

The husband and wife in Islam should also pay much attention to worshipping Allah correctly, learning about Islam, performing zikr (remembrance of Allah), asking forgiveness from Allah, and giving alms to needy Muslims.

Accepting Predestination, Hope and Patience

Whatever fate the Almighty has in store for a Muslim, he must accept his predestination and be ready for it. If he is destined to be barren all his life he should accept his fate with gratitude, because Allah knows better, perhaps spending his whole life in patience and humility is more important and better for him than having a child. All that is appointed for man by Allah is subject to His commands and will, there is a reason for it, and it is His will.

It is said: Allah has all authority over the earth and the heavens. “He does what He wills. He bestows female offspring on whom He wills, and He bestows male offspring on whom He wills. Or He combines the offspring of males and females, and He makes the one He wills barren. Truly, He is the Knower, the Almighty.
